This is a tutorial blog post. Tutorials are written to show people how to do something, like how to use Photoshop or fix a leaky faucet. I’ve noticed that many people need help installing FSX on their computers, and that they’re having problems with the Tacpack software which is the primary software used for military simulation in FSX. Downloading this article can help you avoid these problems so you can get up and running quickly. We’ll also cover some other topics in this article for those who are new to flying planes in FSX.
The best way to find the right software is to search the Internet for “military simulation in FSX”, or simply go directly to Steam. The following are links to sites that you can use when searching the Internet for information on FSX and Tacpack. A list of websites that have been recommended by me. If you have a different preference of a site please leave a comment and I’ll add it to this article. This part of the article will cover some basic installation tips for installing FSX with Tacpack on your computer. It includes troubleshooting steps if anything goes wrong with getting the software installed on your computer properly. We’ll cover some general installation steps here for FSX, but the same information applies to FS2004 if you need to install it on your computer. The page down below covers installing FS2004. The first thing you must do is download the proper installer for your operating system. You must use either 32 or 64 bit versions of Windows XP or Vista respectively depending on if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit machine. If you have a computer that has a 64-bit operating system, you must download the TacPack 64-bit version for your operating system, otherwise only use the 32-bit version for that operating system. If you have a 64-bit operating system, download the 32-bit version of FSX. If you have a 32-bit operating system, download the 64-bit version of FSX (right click the link and select “save as” or “save target as” depending on your browser). The following are links that will take you to the correct FSX installer depending on your operating system if you need help downloading it. Once you've downloaded the correct Tacpack installer for your computer's operating system, make sure that it is in your computer's default directory. Most likely this is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X. If it is not located in either of those places, you will need to change the directory to where it's supposed to be, but do not simply copy it into that directory because most likely what would happen is that you cannot find the TacPack installer anymore after copying it into the proper directory. Make sure that FSX or Tacpack is located in its own legal sub-directory instead of being part of another sub-directory.
